Meet Me in the Music

Meet Me in the Music is the story of how I rediscovered my love for the piano.

For many years, music was something that belonged to an earlier chapter of my life. I still loved it and listened to it constantly, but playing the piano had become something I enjoyed from a distance rather than something I actively pursued.

Like many creative passions, it slowly slipped into the background as life, work, and later motherhood took centre stage.

During the COVID pandemic, while working from home, I found myself with a little more time and decided to start piano lessons again with Alberto L. Ferro, Creative Director of the London Contemporary School of Piano in the UK.

At first, my goal was simple. I wanted to learn a bit more about jazz, harmony, and contemporary music. But over time, the lessons became about something much bigger than that.

“My job is to find who you are in music.”

— Alberto L. Ferro

I remember Alberto saying that to me. At the time, I don't think I fully understood what he meant. Looking back now, I realise that was exactly what this journey became.

Progress was never straightforward. There were long periods when music had to compete with the demands of everyday life, and sometimes our lessons happened only once a month. But they continued, creating a small yet steady space for creativity in my life.

Over five years, that space slowly grew. I found a studio at Island City Studios where I could go to play, record my music with professional engineers, and feel part of a wider community of musicians and creators.

A space of my own — somewhere to play and record.

When I was younger, my musical world revolved around classical composers like Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy. Returning to music as an adult led me somewhere entirely different. I found myself drawn to contemporary composers and, above all, to film music—music that had quietly shaped my imagination and stayed with me for decades.

Gradually, a repertoire began to take shape. It became a collection of ten pieces by composers from around the world, forming a sixty-minute programme that reflects not only the music I love, but also the journey I took to find it again.

Part personal memoir and part creative project, Meet Me in the Music follows the process of returning to a long-neglected passion, discovering a new artistic voice, and creating a body of work shaped by years of listening, learning, and living.

At its heart, this is a story about finding music again—and, through it, finding a part of myself that had been waiting patiently all along.
